European maritime exploration of Australia
A long time ago, there were some people who lived in Europe. They wanted to explore the world and discover new places. They got onto big boats and sailed across the ocean to see what they could find.
One day, some sailors from Europe went all the way to a land they had never seen before. This was a place called Australia! They were surprised because it was very different from their home. The climate was warmer and the animals were strange.
The sailors started to explore Australia and tried to learn about the new place. They met with the people who lived there, who were called Aboriginal people. The Aborigines had lived in Australia for thousands of years and knew a lot about the land.
The sailors saw that there were lots of new plants and animals in Australia that they had never seen before. They took some back with them to Europe to show people there. They also explored the coast of Australia and drew maps of the area to help other people know where it was.
But the sailors were not always nice to the Aborigines. They sometimes took over their land and tried to change their way of life. This was not fair to the Aboriginal people, who had lived in Australia for a very long time and had their own traditions and culture.
