ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Existential closure

Existential closure is when you feel like you have to make a decision because you don't want any more choices or options. It's kind of like when you're picking a toy to play with and you have so many choices that you get overwhelmed and just pick one because you don't want to think about it anymore.

For example, imagine you're shopping for a shirt online and you keep looking at different ones, but none of them feel right. You start to feel stressed out because you don't want to keep looking forever, so you pick one and move on. That's existential closure - you've closed off the possibility of finding a different shirt because you're tired of looking.

In life, sometimes we have a lot of choices and possibilities, and sometimes that can feel overwhelming. When we reach a point where we just want to make a decision and move forward, that's existential closure. It can be a good thing because it helps us make progress, but it can also be limiting if we don't leave ourselves open to new possibilities.
