Expansion deflection nozzle

Imagine you have a water hose- the nozzle on the end is like an expansion deflection nozzle. The nozzle can adjust the flow of water to make it spray out in different directions.

Now, let's say you want to make the water come out even faster. The nozzle can also help with this!

You see, as the water flows through the hose and towards the nozzle, it gets squeezed together. This squeezing makes the water go faster, like when you squeeze a tube of toothpaste and the toothpaste shoots out faster.

The nozzle is designed in a way so that the area where the water comes out becomes larger, kind of like how a megaphone gets wider at one end. This wider area means there's less squeezing going on, so the water has more room to move around and goes even faster!

So, an expansion deflection nozzle helps control where the water goes AND makes it come out even faster by widening the area where it comes out.
