When you read, your eyes move a lot! They don't just stay in one place while you read a whole sentence or paragraph. Instead, your eyes move from left to right and back again as you read each word. This is called eye movement.
When you start reading a sentence, your eyes move to the beginning of the sentence so you can start reading the first word. Then, your eyes move from left to right as you read each word in the sentence. If a word is longer or more complicated, your eyes might move back and forth a few times to help you read it correctly.
As you move your eyes along the sentence, your brain is working hard to process and understand what you're reading. Your brain uses what you're seeing with your eyes to create meaning from the words in the sentence.
When you get to the end of the sentence, your eyes have to make a big jump back to the beginning of the next line or sentence. This happens very quickly, and you might not even notice it's happening!
Eye movement is important for reading because it helps your brain process the words and sentences as you go. Without eye movement, you wouldn't be able to read smoothly and understand what you're reading. So the next time you pick up a book or read a sign, remember how important your eye movement is for reading!
