ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

FMA instruction set

Okay kiddo, imagine that you're playing with some blocks. You want to add two blocks together, but one of them is really heavy and hard to move.

That's kind of like what happens with computers when they need to do math. Some numbers are really big or complicated, and it takes a lot of work for the computer to add them up.

But luckily, the people who make computers have come up with something called the FMA instruction set. It's like a special tool that the computer can use to make math easier and faster.

FMA stands for "fused multiply-add." That means it can do two math operations at once - multiply and then add. So if you had two big numbers that you needed to multiply and then add together, FMA could do it all in one step instead of two.

This makes math calculations go a lot faster, which is important when you're using a computer to do things like play games or add up a bunch of numbers.

But even though FMA is really helpful, not all computers have it. It's a newer technology, and some older computers might not be able to use it. So it's kind of like having a cool new toy - some kids will have it, but some won't.
