A fainting room is a special room that people used to go to when they felt sick or weak and felt like they might faint or pass out. It was usually a small room with comfortable furniture and dim lighting, where people could go to rest and relax until they felt better.
Back in the olden days, people especially women used to wear tight corsets and fancy dresses that made it hard for them to breathe properly. They would often get overheated and dehydrated, which could lead to them feeling faint or lightheaded.
So, to help them feel better, they would go to the fainting room and lie down on a comfy couch or bed. Usually, a maid or a butler would fan them with a cool breeze or give them a glass of water to drink. Sometimes, smelling salts (which was like a strong perfume) was used to awaken them.
Nowadays, we don't really have fainting rooms anymore because people dress more comfortably and we have better ways to prevent fainting or passing out. But back then, it was a helpful way to make sure people felt comfortable and safe.
