Fair Debt Collection Practices Act

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (or the FDCPA) is a law that says debt collectors must treat people fairly when they are trying to collect a debt from them. It includes rules about how and when debt collectors can contact people, what kinds of information they can share with others about the debt, and more. Debt collectors must follow the FDCPA or they may be fined. This law is important because it makes sure that debt collectors treat people with respect and don't take advantage of them or bully them when they are trying to collect a debt.
