Fairfield Plaza, Inc. v. Commissioner is a Supreme Court case about taxes. The government wanted Fairfield Plaza, Inc. to pay taxes on the money it made from renting out its buildings. Fairfield Plaza, Inc. said it didn't have to pay those taxes because it was a real estate company and the government only taxes people when they make money from people buying and selling things (like a store). The Supreme Court said that Fairfield Plaza, Inc. did have to pay taxes - they said that when you own a property and you make money from paying people to use it (like renting out an apartment), you have to pay taxes just like everybody else.
