ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Faith and Philosophy

Well, sweetie, faith and philosophy are both ways to try to understand the world around us, but they are different in some important ways.

You know how some people really believe in God, and some people don't believe in any gods at all, right? Well, that belief is called faith. Faith is when you believe in something even though you can't see it or prove it with science.

Philosophy, on the other hand, is a way of thinking and asking questions about the world around us. It's about using your brain to try to figure out the answers to big questions like "What is the meaning of life?" or "What is happiness?"

Sometimes people use philosophy to try to understand faith too – like they might ask "What does it mean to believe in God?" or "Why do people believe in God?" These are big, complicated questions that people have been asking for a long time.

So, while both faith and philosophy are about trying to understand the world, they approach it in different ways. Faith is about belief, and philosophy is about thinking and questioning.
