False bottom

Have you ever seen a basket with small holes at the bottom? A false bottom is like that basket except that it is not a real bottom. It is like a trick!

In gardening or coffee making, sometimes people use a container with a false bottom. This is because they want the water or soil to go through that false bottom and not stay in the container forever. The false bottom helps to drain the excess water or soil so that plants or coffee can grow better.

So, imagine you have a glass with a false bottom, and you pour water into it. The water will go through the false bottom and come out at the other end. But the glass itself will still be empty. That’s how a false bottom works!
