ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

False necessity

False necessity is when somebody makes you think that you need something that isn't really necessary. For example, let's say you have to buy a new phone. Someone might try to sell you a new phone by saying it has lots of extra features that you "need" - maybe extra storage space or a better camera - but those features might not be important for what you need to do with your phone. So, even though the person is trying to make you think that you need those features, you don't actually need them. That's what false necessity is - it's when somebody makes you think that you need something that you really don't.
