ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Fast fashion

Fast fashion is like going to a toy store and buying many many cheap toys instead of one very good quality toy. Fast fashion means making clothes very quickly and cheaply so people can buy lots of them without spending too much money.

But, just like how too many toys can be bad for the environment and for our wallets, fast fashion can also be bad for the environment and the people who make the clothes. Clothes made quickly and cheaply are often not made to last a long time, so people throw them away and buy more often, filling up landfills with clothes.

Also, the people who make these clothes are sometimes not paid very much money and work in not very good conditions. This can be very sad because they work very hard to make the clothes that we wear to feel happy and comfortable.

It's important to think about the things we buy and try to buy things that are good quality and from companies that treat their workers well, even if it costs a little more money. It's better to buy good quality clothes that will last a long time, and to take care of them so we don't have to keep buying more and more clothes.
