ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Federal Research Division

The federal research division is a part of the government that does "big kid" research. This means that they study really complicated things so that the government can make important decisions about things like medicine, technology, or the environment. They have "grown-up" scientists who use special tools and methods to learn new things and find answers to questions that are hard to figure out. It's kind of like playing detective, but instead of looking for clues to solve a mystery, the scientists look for clues to solve big problems in the world. And just like how you have to be patient and keep trying when you play a hard game or puzzle, the federal research division has to do the same thing with their research until they find the right answers!
