Fencing is a sport where people try to hit each other with long sticks called foils (like swords but not as sharp or dangerous). Fencing can be played by two people or by teams.
Before the game, people put on special clothes to protect their body from getting hurt. They wear a mask to protect their face, a jacket to cover their upper body, and gloves to keep their hands safe.
During the game, players try to hit their opponent with their foil while avoiding getting hit. They score points when they make a clean hit on their opponent's body, called a "touch." A touch is only counted if it is made with the point of the foil, not the sides or the handle.
Fencing also has a lot of rules to keep players safe and make the game fair. For example, players must start each round by standing still and then take turns lunging forward to try and hit each other. They can't step outside of the playing area, and they can't hit their opponent's hand or back.
Fencing is a fun and exciting sport that requires quick thinking, strategy, and lots of practice to be good at it. It is also an Olympic sport and has been played at every Summer Olympics since the modern games began in 1896.
