Ferriby Boats

Imagine you are playing in a lake with your toy boats. Ferriby boats are like those toy boats, but bigger and made a long, long time ago by ancient people who lived in England.

The people who made these boats used trees to make them. They cut the trees down and carved them into the shape of boats. Then they used special tools to make the boats smooth and nice to ride in.

The boats were used to go across the rivers to trade with other villages. They could hold lots of things like food, cloth, and other stuff that people needed. They were also used to go fishing, which was really important for food.

The ferriby boats were very clever because they could go in shallow waters where bigger boats couldn't go. This meant they could travel further inland and reach more places.

Today, we don't use ferriby boats anymore but archaeologists have found some that were buried in the ground for thousands of years. They are now in museums so we can learn all about them and what they were used for.
