ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ferrule

Okay kiddo, so you know how when you draw or write with a pencil, the lead part doesn't just fall out of the wooden part? That's because there's a little metal thing called a ferrule that holds it in place.

Ferrules can also be used on paintbrushes to hold the bristles in place. They're usually made of metal or plastic, and they slide over the end of a pencil or paintbrush. The ferrule is often crimped or squeezed in place to keep everything secure.

So, think of a ferrule like a seatbelt for your pencil or paintbrush. It helps keep everything where it's supposed to be so you can create art or write without anything falling apart.
