Fetch (folklore)
Okay, so you know how sometimes when you’re dreaming, weird things happen and it feels like you’re not really in control? Well, some people used to think that there was a creature that could take over your body while you were asleep and make you do things you wouldn’t normally do.
This creature was called a fetch. It wasn’t exactly like a ghost because it had a physical body, but it could kind of sneak around and mess with people’s minds.
People used to think that if you saw your own fetch, it meant you were going to die soon! Because seeing your own self meant you must have just died and your fetch was now wandering around pretending to be you.
But don’t worry, fetches aren’t real! It was just an old-fashioned scary story people used to tell to scare each other at night.
