Feudal baronies in Devonshire

Okay kiddo, so a long time ago in Devonshire (that's a place in England), there was a system called feudalism where the king owned all the land and gave parts of it to lords. These lords were called barons and they were in charge of their own little areas called baronies.

Now, the barons were super important because they were the ones who controlled the land and the people who worked on it. They also had to protect the land from enemies and invaders. In return, the people who lived on the land had to provide the barons with food and other things they needed to live.

Can you imagine living in a place where one person was in charge of everything? It's like having a big boss who you have to do everything for. But that's how it was back then.

In Devonshire, there were many different baronies with different barons in charge. They all had their own castles and things like that. It was like a big game of king of the hill, but instead of a hill, it was a piece of land.

This system lasted for a long time, but eventually, things started to change and the power of the barons decreased. But it's still very interesting to learn about how things were in the past and how different life was back then.
