ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Fiber to the x

Okay, so you know how we use the internet to watch videos, play games, and do research? Well, the internet is like a big highway that allows information to travel from one place to another.

But sometimes, the highway can get really congested, like when lots of people try to use it at the same time. This can slow down our internet and make everything take longer to load.

To help fix this problem, we can use something called "fiber to the x." This means that instead of using regular cables to send information, we use special cables made out of super thin and strong fibers of glass or plastic.

These fibers can send information much faster and farther than regular cables, like a super fast train on its own track. So, if we switch to using fiber cables, we can make sure that our internet doesn't get slowed down when lots of people are using it at the same time.

And the "x" part of the term just means that we can use fiber cables for different parts of our internet connection, not just for the main highway. We can use it to connect our homes, businesses, or even our phones and tablets.

So, in summary, fiber to the x is like a super highway for our internet that uses special cables to make sure we can use the internet without any annoying delays.
