ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Fictional city

Okay kiddo, do you like to read books or watch movies or play video games? Imagine if the story you like, takes place in a made-up city that doesn't really exist in the real world. That's a fictional city!

It's pretend, like when you play make-believe with your friends. But in this pretend city, the author or the creator has created a world with different buildings, roads, and people who live there. It's like a big, imaginary playground where the story happens.

Some fictional cities you might have heard of are Gotham City from Batman, Hogwarts from Harry Potter, or Springfield from The Simpsons. Even though these places aren't real, they feel real because the creators have given them a lot of details and history.

So when you're exploring a story set in a fictional city, you get to use your imagination and picture what the city looks like, what the people are like, and how they all fit into the story. It's a lot of fun!
