ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution

The 5th Amendment to the United States Constitution is a part of the Bill of Rights. It says that the government cannot take away your life, liberty, or property without giving you a reason and a fair trial. This means that if the government wants to put you in jail, charge you with a crime, or take away something that belongs to you, they have to have a good reason and a fair trial in which you can explain why you should not be punished. This helps protect us from the government being too powerful.
