Fifth Monarchists

Fifth Monarchists were a religious group which formed during the 1600s in England. They believed that a kingdom ruled by God was coming soon. They wanted to take action to help bring this kingdom about, so they held meetings and planned ways to spread their beliefs. They wanted to create a better world, where people would live together in peace and justice. They believed that a new king—a fifth monarch—would be the one to bring this world about. They argued that the Bible prophesied a coming world ruled by God and the fifth king, and they wanted to help bring it about.
