ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Fika (coffee break)

Okay kiddo, so fika is a Swedish word that means taking a break from what you are doing and having some coffee (or tea) and maybe a snack. It's kind of like a mini-party where you stop working for a little while and hang out with your friends or coworkers.

So let's say you're at school or work and you've been working really hard on something. You might start feeling tired or a little stressed. That's when it's time for a fika break! You can invite your friends or coworkers to join you in the break room or maybe even outside in the fresh air.

When you get there, someone usually brings out some coffee or tea and maybe some sweet treats like cookies or cake. You can chat and relax for a little while, and then when you're ready, you can go back to your work feeling refreshed and ready to go.

Fika isn't just about the coffee and snacks though, it's also about spending time with people and taking a break to appreciate the small things in life. So that's why fika is so important in Sweden - it's a time to slow down, enjoy some good company, and recharge before tackling whatever comes next.
