ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Filioque

So you know how we say the Lord's Prayer, right? And it goes, "Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name..." and so on. But sometimes people argue about one part of that prayer, where it says, "and the Son."

Some people say that when we talk about the Holy Spirit, we should say that it comes "from the Father and the Son." They call this adding "filioque" to the prayer.

But other people say that we should only say that the Holy Spirit comes "from the Father" and not add "and the Son." They think that adding it changes the meaning and goes against what the Bible and the church originally taught.

So basically, it's a big argument about one little word in the Lord's Prayer.
