ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Filter (optics)

Hey there kiddo! Do you know what a filter is? It's like a sieve that filters out things you don't want. In optics, a filter is kind of like that, but it filters light.

When light travels, it can have different colors or wavelengths. Some filters are like sunglasses that make things look darker, but others can filter out specific colors of light to create a different effect.

For example, if you look through a blue filter, everything else will look blue too! But if you look through a red filter, everything will look red instead. And if you look through a filter that only lets green light through, everything you see will be tinted green too.

Filters are really useful in photography too! They can bring out specific colors, make the sky look bluer, or even make a photo look like it was taken at a different time of day.

So remember, a filter is like a sieve for light! It helps to block or let certain colors through to create different effects. Cool, huh?
