ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Fine guidance sensor

Have you ever seen a camera that blurs when you move or shake it too much? To take clear pictures, cameras need to stay very still. That's like how the Fine Guidance Sensor (FGS) helps keep spaceships steady when they fly through space.

The FGS is a special camera that's used on NASA spacecraft, like the Hubble Space Telescope. It has tiny sensors inside that can detect if the spaceship is moving or shaking. If the spaceship starts moving around, the FGS sends signals to the ship's thrusters to make adjustments, kind of like how a pilot adjusts a plane's course.

The FGS is super important because it helps scientists take pictures of space that are crystal-clear, without any blur or wobbles. And that means we can see things like galaxies, planets, and stars in more detail than ever before!
