First Buddhist council

Ok kiddo, imagine you and your friends really like playing a game called "Buddhism". One day, your leader named Buddha (who is very wise and kind) goes away to a different place and you and your friends are starting to forget some of the rules and teachings of the game. So, all of you decide to get together and remind each other of what Buddha taught you.

This is kind of what happened during the first Buddhist Council. After Buddha passed away, some of his followers got together to remember his teachings and make sure they were still practicing the right way. They wanted to make sure everyone was playing the "Buddhism" game correctly.

The Council was held in a special place called Rajagaha, and there were lots of important people there who had studied with Buddha before. One of the leaders named Mahakasyapa was in charge of making sure everyone followed the rules and talked about what they remembered. They all talked about the teachings, stories and sayings of Buddha, and wrote them down so others could learn about them too.

It took a long time to talk about everything, but everyone was happy that they were able to remember all of the rules and teachings. They were able to keep playing the "Buddhism" game the way that Buddha intended, and this helped spread his teachings to many people around the world.
