Fish jaw

Have you ever tried to eat something really tough and had to use your teeth to break it down? Well, fish have to do that too! But instead of having one set of teeth like you, they have lots of little teeth. And these teeth are not only in their mouth but also on their jaw bones!

The fish jaw is like a puzzle made up of many tiny bones that fit together. These bones help the fish to not only hold onto its food but also to crush it into little pieces. Some fish even use their jaws to break through shells of small creatures they like to eat!

Did you know that some fish have such strong jaws that they can crush the shells of clams or snails? And some other fish, called filter-feeders, don't even need teeth in their jaws. They just let water flow through their mouths and strain out tiny plankton and other creatures to eat!

So, that's why fish need their jaws - they need them to eat just like you need your teeth to eat your favorite snacks!
