Fish scale

A fish scale is like a tiny little plate that comes off of a fish's skin. They look like coins and they can feel really smooth. Fish have scales because they are what protects their skin from things like people touching them, or parasites feeding off of them. Fish scales can come off easily and this helps the fish when they need to make a fast get away in the water!
