ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Floatplane

A floatplane is like a regular airplane, but instead of having wheels to take off and land on solid ground, it has special floats attached to its bottom that allow it to take off and land on water. It's kind of like a boat that can fly. The floats are made of special materials like metal or plastic, and they're filled with air to help the plane stay afloat on the water.

When the pilot wants to take off or land on water, they need to find a safe spot like a lake or river that's big enough and doesn't have any obstacles like rocks or trees. They also need to make sure the water is calm and not too rough or wavy. Once they find a good spot, the pilot will maneuver the plane towards the water and use its powerful engines to create enough speed to lift off the surface and into the air or lower it onto the water.

Floatplanes are often used for things like touring or exploring remote areas, carrying cargo or supplies to hard-to-reach locations, or helping with water rescues. They can land almost anywhere there is suitable water and are especially handy in places where there aren't any airports or runways.
