ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Foil kite

Okay, imagine a piece of paper. If you hold it in front of a fan, the air will push against it and make it flap around. This is kind of what a foil kite is like!

A foil kite is made out of durable fabric, kind of like a really strong, shiny tablecloth. The kite is designed to catch the wind, just like your paper in front of the fan.

But, unlike a traditional diamond-shaped kite, a foil kite uses two layers of fabric that are shaped like a wing (like an airplane wing). When the wind hits this shape, it creates something called lift, which is what keeps the kite up in the air.

Inside the kite, there are also lines attached to a control bar, kind of like a steering wheel in a car. These lines give the person flying the kite the ability to control where the kite goes in the sky.

So, even though a foil kite looks a little different from a classic kite, it still does the same thing: it flies through the air and lets you have fun!
