Folklore of the United States

Folklore is stories, songs and traditions that have been passed down for generations, often by word of mouth. Folklore of the United States includes stories, songs, and sayings that have been shared by people living in the United States since the earliest times. These stories were usually passed down from person to person, so they don't have a written record, but they tell us something about our country. One example of United States folklore is the Paul Bunyan stories. Paul Bunyan was a giant lumberjack who was said to have done amazing things like create the Great Lakes and the Grand Canyon! Folklore also includes popular sayings such as "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" and superstitions like the belief that breaking a mirror will bring you 7 years of bad luck. Folklore of the United States helps us to understand the history of our country, our customs, and our beliefs.
