Imagine that you and your friends want to share your toys, but you all have different toys that you like the best. One of your friends loves playing with Legos, and another really enjoys playing with dolls. You all decide to create a toy cooperative, where you can all share your toys, even if they're not the ones you personally like the most.
Now, imagine if instead of toys, you and your friends want to share food. This kind of sharing is called a food cooperative. You and your friends work together to buy healthy food from nearby farms and farmers' markets. Because you're buying food in a group, you can often get better prices by buying in bulk.
Each time you all meet, you share the food, and everyone gets a fair share of the things they like to eat. And just like with the toy cooperative, you don't have to be the only one buying food, you can all work together to make things a little easier and less expensive.
