Foreign hostages in Nigeria

Okay kiddo, so you know how when you go to a new place, you meet new people who might do things differently than what you're used to?

Well, that's kind of what happened to some grown-ups who traveled to a country called Nigeria. Some people who were from other countries went there to work, or do some exploring, and unfortunately, some of them ended up being taken captive by other people who wanted to use them to get things they wanted, like money or attention.

Being a hostage means being taken somewhere against your will, and sometimes being treated badly or having to do things you don't want to do. In Nigeria, some of these hostages were from other countries, and their governments had to be involved in trying to get them back safely. It's a really serious and sad thing, and we hope that it doesn't happen to anyone else.
