Foreign internal defense

Foreign internal defense (FID) is when a country (the “host nation") gets help from another country (the “sender nation”) with defending its own people, land, and laws. An example of this might be if the host nation was having trouble with drug smuggling or terrorist groups in their country, and the sender nation sent in troops and advisors to help train the host nation's law enforcement and military forces to better use their resources and protect their own people. The goal of FID is to help the host nation better defend itself in the future so it doesn’t have to rely on outside help.
