ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Forklift truck

Have you ever seen a truck that picks up heavy things and moves them around on its front end? That truck is called a forklift.

Imagine you have a toy truck and you want to pick up a toy box. You would use your hands to lift the box and put it in the back of the truck. A forklift works in a similar way, but instead of hands, it has a big machine on the front that can lift heavy boxes and put them on its back.

The machine on the front of the forklift is called a fork. The fork is shaped like a big letter L and it goes under the box to pick it up. When the forklift driver pushes a button, the fork goes up and lifts the box off the ground. Then, the driver can use the forklift to move the box to another place, like a shelf in a warehouse.

Forklifts are very useful in places where people need to move heavy things around quickly and safely. They help workers avoid getting hurt because the forks can do the heavy lifting for them. So, the next time you see a forklift truck, you'll know that it's a big, powerful machine that can lift and move things easier than people can.
