Okay kiddo, have you ever seen an old movie that was made a long, long time ago? Maybe it was in black and white and the picture quality wasn't as good as the movies you see now. Well, those old movies were usually made on something called film.
Film is kind of like a really long ribbon made out of plastic. On that ribbon there are tiny pictures, one after the other. When you play those tiny pictures one after the other really fast, it looks like the people and things on the screen are moving!
Sometimes, people find old film that nobody has seen for a very long time. It might be hiding in an attic, or maybe someone forgot about it in a dusty old box. This is called found film.
When someone finds an old roll of film, they take it to a special place where people can look at it and try to figure out what it's all about. Sometimes it's just a home movie that someone made a long time ago, but sometimes it's a really important piece of history!
People who like found film work hard to restore it and keep it safe, so that we can watch it and learn about what life was like a long time ago. It's kind of like digging up treasure from the past!
