ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Frame drum

Imagine you have a really big bowl, that you can't eat from, but it's perfect for making music! This bowl is called a frame drum. It's called a frame drum because it has a frame, like a picture frame, around the outside that holds a piece of animal skin stretched tight across it. When you hit this skin with your hands or a stick, it makes a really cool sound.

People have been playing frame drums for thousands of years in many different cultures all around the world. Some frame drums have special decorations on them, like tassels or beads, that make them even more fun to play with. You can play fast beats or slow beats, and even sing or chant while you play.

Frame drums can come in different shapes and sizes, but they all work the same way: with a skin stretched over a frame. So, if you ever see a big round drum with a frame around the edge, you can remember that it's called a frame drum and it's great for making music and having fun!
