ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Frame rate

Frame rate is like watching a movie made up of lots and lots of pictures. When a movie plays, it shows you pictures that change really fast, one after the other. That’s called a frame. The speed of how fast the pictures change is called the frame rate.

Imagine you have a book and you flip through the pages really fast. You can see the pictures on the pages because they are changing so fast. That’s how a TV or a computer screen works too! They show you pictures, or frames, really fast so you can see a smooth video.

If the frame rate is too slow, the video won’t look smooth and it might look like it’s lagging or freezing. But if the frame rate is really high, the video will look really smooth when you press play. It’s like having a lot of pictures to look at in a really short amount of time.

So frame rate is how fast the pictures change in a movie or video. The faster the change, the smoother the video looks.
