ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Francis Bacon

Francis Bacon was a man who lived a very long time ago. He was born in England in 1561 and died in 1626. He was known for many things, but one of the most important things he did was write about how people can learn more about the world around them.

Bacon believed that people should use their senses to explore the world. They should look at things and touch things and smell things and even taste things to learn more about them. He also thought that people should use their brains to think about what they are learning and try to figure out how things work.

Bacon was very interested in science, which is a way of learning about the world through experiments and observations. He believed that science could help people understand the world better and improve their lives.

Bacon wrote many books and essays about his ideas. In one of his most famous works, called Novum Organum, he talked about how people can use a method of investigation called the scientific method to learn about the world. This method involves making observations, coming up with a hypothesis or idea about what those observations mean, testing that hypothesis with experiments, and then drawing conclusions from the results.

Bacon's ideas about science and learning have had a big influence on the world. Many people today still use the scientific method to learn about the world, and we continue to make new discoveries and find new ways to use science to improve our lives.
