ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Franklin Ware Mann

Franklin Ware Mann is a man who lived a long time ago and did some important things. He was born in New York City in 1852 and grew up to be a very smart person. He liked to study birds, which are animals that can fly and sing.

Mann went to college and learned a lot about birds. He decided to become an ornithologist, which is a fancy word for someone who studies birds. He spent a lot of time looking at birds and figuring out how they lived and what they ate. He even wrote some books about birds that people still read today!

But Mann didn't just study birds. He wanted to help protect them from being hurt or killed by people. So he worked hard to create laws that would make it illegal to harm birds or destroy their homes. He also encouraged other people to help him protect the birds.

Mann became very famous for his work protecting birds. He even got to meet the president of the United States! People all over the world admired him for his love of birds and his dedication to protecting them.

Sadly, Mann died in 1922. But his legacy lives on. Today, people still study birds and work to protect them, just like he did. And they remember Franklin Ware Mann as a hero who helped make the world a better place for birds and the people who love them.
