Free radical halogenation

Free radical halogenation is a chemical reaction that happens when something called a "free radical" reacts with something called a "halogen". Free radicals are molecules that contain atoms with an odd number of electrons, meaning an atom that is missing one electron. Halogens are a type of molecule made up of different elements, such as chlorine, bromine, iodine and fluorine. When the free radical reacts with the halogen, the free radical steals the missing electron from the halogen, making the free radical complete and the halogen incomplete. This reaction causes the free radical and the halogen to form a new chemical that we can use in science!
