ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Freedom Evolves

"Freedom Evolves" is a book that talks about how freedom is something that can change and grow over time, just like you grow and change from being a baby to a big kid!

You know how when you were a baby, you couldn't walk, talk or do things on your own? But as you got older, your parents, teachers and friends helped you learn and become more independent. You got to do more things on your own and make your own choices – that's what "evolving" means – growing and changing over time!

Freedom is kind of like that too. Our ancestors didn't have as much freedom as we do now; people were ruled by kings and queens and didn't have much say in how things were done. But over time, people fought for their rights and freedoms, and the world became more democratic, which means everyone gets a say in how things are run.

In "Freedom Evolves," the author talks about how freedom can continue to grow and evolve over time. Even though we have a lot of freedom now, there are still things we can do to make our society more fair and just. For example, we can work to end discrimination against people based on their race, gender or sexuality, so everyone has the same opportunities and rights.

So just like you keep growing and learning more every day, freedom can keep evolving too, as people work together to make our world a better place for everyone!
