French Madagascar

But the people of Madagascar didn't like this, because they wanted to have their own country and control their own resources. They fought against the French for a long time to try and gain their independence.
Finally, in 1960, the people of Madagascar were able to gain their independence from France. This means that they were no longer controlled by the French and could make their own decisions as a country.
Even though Madagascar is no longer a part of France, they still have some cultural influences from the French. For example, they still speak French in some parts of Madagascar and eat French-inspired foods.
