ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

French colonial administration of Laos

Okay kiddo, so a long time ago, a place called Laos was ruled by the French – like a boss at work. They were in charge of making rules and keeping everything organized.

The French people who lived there were called colonial administrators. They were like the grown-ups in charge of the playground, making sure everything was fair and everyone followed the rules.

The Laos people didn’t always like being told what to do by the French, but they had to follow their rules because the French had all the power.

The French colonial administration controlled a lot of things in Laos – like building roads, schools, and hospitals. They made the Laos people use French money instead of their own, and they even made them learn the French language.

It was a bit like having a foreign babysitter – they were there to help and take care of things, but you still had to listen to their rules.

Eventually, though, the Laos people started to get really tired of being bossed around by the French. They wanted to be in charge of their own country and make their own rules. So, they fought and won their independence from France in 1954.

And that’s the story of the French colonial administration in Laos, sweetie.
