Funayūrei

Funayūrei are ghosts or spirits that are said to haunt Japanese waters, particularly the Sea of Japan. These are like regular ghosts, but instead of walking around on land, they float around in the water like a ghostly ship. People who believe in them say they are the spirits of sailors who died at sea and were never properly buried.

These ghosts are often depicted as being womanly figures wearing long, flowing white clothes, almost like brides. They have long black hair, and their pale faces are often distorted or angry-looking. They sometimes carry around objects from their old lives or even boats.

Some people believe that if you see a funayūrei, it is a bad omen and you might experience bad luck, and even death. Others believe that they are actually benevolent and can bring good luck to sailors on their voyages.

People have been telling stories about funayūrei for hundreds of years, and they are an important part of Japanese folklore. While some people consider them spooky or scary, others find them fascinating and even beautiful in a haunting sort of way.
