Okay kiddo, imagine you have two parts of your body that help you do things. One part is your brain and the other part is your muscles. Sometimes something happens that makes it hard for your brain and muscles to work together correctly. This is called a functional neurologic disorder.
It's like when you try to play soccer and your brain tells your leg to kick the ball, but your leg doesn't listen. It's not because your leg is broken or doesn't work, it's because your brain is having trouble telling your leg what to do.
Functional neurologic disorder can cause all sorts of problems like weak muscles, trouble speaking, or even seizures. But the good news is that even though it can be scary, there's usually nothing seriously wrong with your brain or muscles. It's just a little miscommunication that can be fixed with therapy and support from doctors and family.
