ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

GHTF

The Global Harmonization Task Force (GHTF) is like a group of grown-up friends who get together to make sure that all the toys they play with are safe and work the same way all over the world, just like moms and dads around the world want their kids to have safe and fun toys to play with.

In the same way, GHTF is a group from different countries who work together to make sure that medical devices (like pacemakers, hearing aids, and insulin pumps) are safe and work the same way worldwide. They make rules called "regulations" that all countries have to follow and help countries with different regulations work together so that everyone gets the same safe medical devices. That way, if your grandma in the United States has a pacemaker, it works the same way as your friend's grandma's pacemaker in China. And if you need a hearing aid in Germany, it will be just as safe as the same hearing aid that someone else needs in Australia.
