ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

GSI anomaly

Imagine you are playing a game with your friend where you have to count all the toys in the room and write that number down. However, there is one problem – your friend accidentally wrote down the wrong number for one of the toys. This mistake is called an anomaly, which means something that is different or unusual compared to what it should be.

In science and research, anomalies can happen too. Sometimes, when people are studying the Earth, they might notice that something seems different or unusual compared to what they expected. This is called a GSI anomaly. GSI stands for "Gravity Signals of the Earth's Interior," which means scientists are using changes in Earth's gravity to understand what is happening inside the planet.

When researchers notice a GSI anomaly, it means that the Earth's gravity is not following the usual pattern they expected. Just like your friend's mistake in counting the toys, there is something unusual or different happening with the Earth's gravity. Scientists then need to figure out why this anomaly has happened and what it means for our understanding of the Earth's interior. By studying these anomalies, we can learn more about our planet and how it works.
