Gaelic medium education in Scotland

In Scotland, some schools offer something called Gaelic Medium Education (GME). This means that children learn all their subjects in Gaelic, which is a Scottish language that's been spoken for a long, long time. That means that when they learn things like math or science, they hear and speak Gaelic instead of English.

Some kids in Scotland speak Gaelic at home, and some don't. But even if they don't already speak Gaelic, they can still go to a GME school and learn the language as they learn other subjects.

Gaelic is an important part of Scotland's history and culture, so by learning it this way, children can become more connected to their heritage and community. GME schools also help keep the Gaelic language alive for future generations.
